I’m back! Well, sort of and unofficially. Let me explain….
After writing a blog in April, I thought that I would have the opportunity to sit down and write again before now. Where does time go? Owen turned two on August 9th, so he requires a lot of attention and I am happy to oblige. My wife is great about posting messages on Facebook and tagging me, so if you are interested in seeing some of our adventures check it out.
I recently had time for reflection while hiking in the Adirondack Mountains. Upon returning home, I reached out to some family, friends and former colleagues to share my future plan. With their collective support, I decided to start my own business called “Be the HYPE.”
I plan to serve as a consultant for teachers, administrators, and districts to ensure they get personalized service when ordering equipment, resources, and professional development. This is a totally new venture for me, so let me explain my “Top 5” strategies for success.
1: Knowledge and Experience
I spent nearly two decades in the world of physical education. I was in the classroom and lived firsthand the frustrations of ordering equipment. I was a PEP Director for three years and recognized the benefits professional development provides for teachers. Most recently, I worked in the private sector and learned the business from the other side. I am now in a position to use my knowledge and experience to help teachers and administrators. Whether it is finding the perfect ball or supporting outcomes-based instruction, I will be able to meet the needs and expectations of customers.
2: Customer-Centric Approach
“Be the HYPE” is a consulting company that will allow me the opportunity to work for customers. After determining what you need, I will then be the liaison with the supplier to streamline the ordering process. A customer-centric approach means that I will provide everyone with a positive experience in order to build loyalty and trust. I encourage you to give me an opportunity to earn your business.
3: Time Saving
There are so many companies to choose from and so many options for ordering equipment these days. I guarantee to streamline the process for customers that order through “Be the Hype”. Rather than calling into an automated system, one call or email to me and I will take care of the rest. This time-saving approach will allow you to put your energy where it belongs… with your students and families!
4: Thinking Outside the Box
COVID is going to present many challenges this year for schools and after-school programs. You will have to continue to adapt whether your school chooses to deliver instruction in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid-model. Some schools are thinking outside the box and purchasing small equipment packs for every student. These packs are an invaluable resource regardless of the format in which instruction takes place. Students with access to these packs will be guaranteed to have a few basic and essential items at their disposal. Social and Emotional Learning is also going to be a topic that will be front and center; now more than ever! Reach out to me and we can discuss some options that are available for teachers and students to ensure SEL is a priority.
5: Keep it Simple
In my years of experience, I have been able to establish many relationships and look forward to continuing to build more. If you are a physical education teacher, classroom teacher, administrator, college professor, physical activity leader, parent, or anything else in-between AND need equipment or resources I can help. Whether you need one bean bag or one hundred bean bags, you reach out to me. I will work with a supplier to get you a quote with competitive pricing. I will be able to use my connections to deliver what you need, when you need it, at the best price.

PE Top 5 is still available for free resources, like the DEAM Calendars. I am still part of OPEN, and will continue to support the efforts of OPEN both as a National Trainer and member of the Development Council. If you have not registered for OPEN, you can access tons of FREE activities at www.OPENphysed.org. “Be the HYPE” is just one more great way in which I have the privilege to serve the community of physical educators, activity leaders, and school systems nationwide.
As always, be well, stay healthy, and have fun!
