A New Career Awaits

Hey Team!  I wanted to let you know that US Games (BSN Sports) eliminated the outside team of Regional Managers earlier this month.  In other words, I was laid off.  The impact of Covid-19 resulted in the company having to make some difficult decisions.  I am choosing to believe that things happen for a reason.  Before making this decision widely public, I decided to take the past couple of weeks to reflect and put my feelings into words. These are my Top 5 thoughts.

5) #GlassHalfFull

So far everyone in my family has remained healthy. My situation is not ideal, but the impact of the Corona virus has devastated others far worse.  Being angry or upset for losing my job is not going to be helpful or productive. My resolve and resiliency are strengthened from those around me. With a “Glass Half-Full” mindset, I will be able to position myself for future success.

4) #MindBodySpirit

I have worked out more in the last two weeks than I have in the past few months. I was so focused on work recently that I was not practicing what I preach.  I have refocused my priorities and I am getting back to better habits. My mind, body, and spirit have never been stronger!

3) #OpportunityKnocks

I am a National Board Certified Teacher with ten years experience teaching grades PreK through sixth grade.  I have coached modified and varsity soccer, as well as track & field.  In the past five years I have presented hundreds of workshops at local, state, regional and national conferences.  As a Regional Sales Manager, I obtained practical experience that will qualify me for a variety of career prospects. I appreciate the advice and job offers that have already started coming my way and look forward to hearing what other options exist.  When opportunity knocks, I will determine what the best fit is for me and my family.

2) #TeachersHelpingTeachers

I will continue to be involved with OPEN in a voluntary capacity.  I serve on the Development Team and as one of the National Trainers.  There are tens-of-thousands of teachers that are relying on OPEN and I feel compelled to stay involved. I love presenting, so I will also use my experience to work with teachers, districts, and associations as needed to provide workshops and professional development.  I believe in the OPEN motto of “Teachers Helping Teachers!”

1) #LuckiestGuyEver

I am fortunate to have a wife that is a school psychologist and has job security and benefits.  Beyond having the reassurance of having a reliable source of income, Melissa believes in me.  She is the most amazing wife and mother.  Also, Owen is at an age (20-months old) where he is craving our attention.  Since Melissa is still having to work, I have been able to spend more quality time with him. With the love and encouragement of my family I will land back on my feet. I am truly one of the luckiest guys ever!

I did my best to sum up my feelings as concisely as possible.  However, it is difficult to put some things into words.  I welcome your perspective.  If you are reading and would like to reach me directly, please email or connect with me on social media (profiles below).

  1. Nick,
This is what a true positive man sounds like. You are an exceptional man, husband, and Father. You are such a beautiful role model for your son and the the entire world. You and your wife make the world a better place.
I am so proud of you and the life you have created. I’m praying for you and your family in continued health and discernment through this time. May God Bless you all. Such a beautiful family that I love to follow as you are so very positive and wise.

    Love,
    Deb Tillman

  2. Nick, the best thing I read was the glass is half full. Melissa’s great grandma Sherman was a firm believer in positive thinking. She followed the words of Norman Vincent Peal with his “power of positive thinking” and passed that on to many.
When I was working and supervising staff, I had numerous sayings posted on my office walls. One quote that has stuck with me is from Jimmy Johnson, the well known football coach: “Positive attitude, plus effort, equals success.” You certainly exhibit those traits
I’m rooting for you, Melissa, and Owen!!

    1. The people around me have helped shape my perspective. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to meet Melissa’s grandparents or great-grandparents. However, I know she is the amazing person she is because of the influence of her family.

  3. All very well said, Big Cuz; impressive.

There will be countless more opportunities so you’re in a great position to wait for the right one. Your positive mindset will do you wonders.

I also like that you kept the Top 5 theme going, and I saw your recent DEAM post as well; great work!

Keep up the momentum and positivity, Nick. Can’t wait to see where you land next.

    Michael

  4. As a PE teacher that has seen you present a number of times, you are truly someone to admire and respect Nick! I have no doubt the future holds wonderful things for you!
