Professional Development Opportunities

As many of you know, I started my own business last year called Be the Hype. Over the past twelve months I have been delivering professional development workshops for teachers from coast to coast. As you would expect, most have been virtual, but there have been a few exceptions which have allowed me to present face-to-face.

The audiences have varied greatly and have included classroom teachers, physical educators, early childhood staff, physical activity leaders, paraprofessionals, and administrators. I believe in engaging participants in both discussion and activities making the session equally fun and memorable.

As many schools and districts begin to plan for next year, I would like to post some information regarding a few of my favorite workshops. Each can be condensed and shared in as little as one hour or customized to be part of a full-day professional development experience. If you are interested, please complete the request form available on my website.

Engaging #PhysEd OPEN to All

We want students to move and sweat. We also know that we are teaching valuable skills and concepts. In this session participants will discover fun, easy, and engaging activities that promote best practices and high-quality physical education utilizing OPENphysed.org.  Academic rigor is infused in all of the content provided on OPEN. No student will be waiting on the sidelines in these outcomes-based activities designed by teachers for teachers.  The goal is for participants to leave this session with new ideas to enhance MVPA.

Classroom Moves to Activate Learning

Come ready to learn fun and creative ways to infuse physical activity in both socially distant and virtual classrooms. Providing students with opportunities to move is critical, now more than ever! Participants will discuss the barriers for including physical activities in their daily schedule and share ideas for overcoming the challenges. Teachers will leave this workshop embracing the importance of classroom integrated physical activity and will have the confidence to allow their students to move more.

Excel with SEL

In this most challenging school year both children and adults have experienced trauma of varying degrees. Reinforcing social and emotional competencies at this time will help to create a safe environment, as well as empower students and teachers to begin the healing process. This workshop will provide teachers with strategies for developing connections with students and between students.

The Greatest Show Ever

Working with children is like being on a stage. Enthusiastic physical activity leaders have an energy that is contagious. Attend this session ready to be actively engaged in activities appropriate for physical distancing. Participants will learn strategies to maximize the children’s experience and ensure they are excited to return to your program day after day! Get ready to be part of “The Greatest Show Ever!”

Wow! Kids Love to Move!

Do you teach preschool aged children?  Do you need developmentally appropriate activities to actively engage these young students? Would you like a free online resource to access whenever you need it?  This session will provide participants with activities to model and engage young children in physical activity regardless of space and equipment limitations. Participants will receive free, standards-based resources to ensure everything they learn is sustainable. The goal of this session is for participants to say, “Wow! Kids Love to Move!”

Harness Your Potential

This is a customized session to support the direct needs of participants. The theme will be centered around empowerment and encouraging participants to leverage their strengths and optimism when faced with challenges and uncertainty. As always, the audience will be asked to stay engaged and join the activities used throughout this session. Some popular topics in the past have focused on team building, fitness, recess, technology, assessment, grant funding, comprehensive physical activity, and much more.

Pricing and Details

I am purposely not listing the cost for these workshops. The reason is that pricing varies based on a number of factors including the length of the session, delivery format (virtual or in-person), travel distance, and more. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss these details with you via a phone call or Zoom meeting.
