About

Welcome to my blog (PEtop5.com).  My motivation for this endeavor stems from my desire to network and connect with all of the amazing PE teachers out there as well as share my passion for promoting healthy living.

My educational background includes an undergraduate degree in both physical education and business from Ithaca College and a masters degree in special education from SUNY Cortland.

I taught elementary PE for ten years.  During this time, I helped write a winning PEP Grant (2008-2011) and then became the grant’s project director while maintaining my full teaching load.  Needless to say, that was a very busy few years!

Currently, I work for US Games, which is a division of BSN Sports.  My sales region includes New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont.  I also manage FitnessGram and conferences nationwide. I continue to teach part-time as an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Cortland. As an OPEN National Trainer, I have had the privilege of presenting in over 20 states across the country.

The most important thing in my life is my family. I have a beautiful wife and son. We love to take walks, read books, and spend time with the rest of our extended family.  I would not be where I am today, without their love and support.  Time seems to fly by faster than ever, so I cherish and make the most of every day. I love these two more than anything!

  1. I saw where you posted your Feb DEAM calendar on Twitter. Our systems at school won’t allow us to access that. Am I just missing it here on your website? If so could you please email me a copy mowens@lawrenceal.org Thanks again for sharing.

  2. HI, I am looking for the slam ball rules, could you please email them to me? We play table ball at recess and slam ball looks good.
    Thank you,

  3. Hi Nick!
I’m an elementary PE teacher in Ohio and I have loved following you on twitter and now on your blog. I have been using your DEAM calendars as extra credit and to increase outside of school activity. I have some students who have been very loyal to filling theirs out! Love that! I was curious if you would be continuing the DEAM calendars? I haven’t found Feb 2018 yet. Thanks and keep up the great work!!

    1. Beth,

I post DEAM Calendars every month with the exception of July (generally speaking). I am glad that your students enjoy them. October through December will be posted tomorrow so that teachers won’t have to wait until the last minute to download. If you need anything else, please let me know.

      Nick

  4. Good Morning!
I love these calendars and would like to adapt them for my high school students. Do you have an entire year? Im new to your page, and Ive been hunting for an idea like this for the last few days. With our schools current closure, I would love to offer my students and their families things they can do, that also promotes physical fitness and wellness. What I have seen so far makes me super excited 🙂
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

    1. Hey Kelly. I apologize for not responding sooner. I would be happy to work on a high school version of DEAM Calendars the remainder of the year. Would you be interested in providing some ideas for daily activities? Let’s make it happen!
